Driven by the rigorous pursuit of spiritual introspection and the solitary lifestyle, our design strategy prioritizes the creation of large, secluded volumes that act as sanctuaries from the external world. We anchored the architectural program around the essential pillars of daily life—the temple, the refectory, and the workshop. These spaces are not merely functional; they are conceived as distinct voids that encourage pause and reflection, allowing the architecture to recede and the mind to focus.
Central to the experience is the careful choreography of natural light. We studied the solar path to manipulate how light penetrates these large volumes, utilizing it not just for illumination, but as a tangible building material. Through strategic fenestration and calculated apertures, light enters the space to cultivate a transcendent atmosphere, shifting intimately throughout the day to mark the passage of time and enhance the spiritual quality of the interior.
In terms of tectonics, the project establishes a robust dialogue between the vernacular and the contemporary. We utilized traditional dry stonework to ground the structure in history, juxtaposed against the raw minimalism of reinforced concrete. This material duality serves a dual purpose: it revitalizes the site with modern structural integrity while deeply honoring the enduring identity and geological texture of the surrounding landscape.
